Becoming a champion it takes more than staying active -- healthy eating is key, too. We asked members of the LA Galaxy and LA Kings who visited the White House yesterday to celebrate their championships to share their go-to healthy game-day fueling up strategies. We couldn't help but notice these athletic stars all had some pretty similar advice about what kids should eat before play! Check it out below:

“Let’s Move! and get on the right track” became our mission a few short years ago at Waterford. Our journey began with a Michigan Team Nutrition Wellness grant that taught us about the HealthierUS School Challenge and the many wellness and menu changes we needed. Our first focus was encouraging students to embrace new foods.

Carrollton City Schools school meal service in Carrollton, Georgia are meeting the new meal standards through innovation, community involvement and farm-to-school products. The school has gotten a local chef involved in planning and preparing foods for students. Some of the recipes are so popular, kids are asking their parents to recreate the school lunch dishes at home!

We’ve never been satisfied with meeting minimum standards. We started our own school food revolution by eliminating sodas and junk food from our cafeterias, setting up school gardens, and purchasing fruits and vegetables from local and regional farmers before the new school meals came into play.

Earlier this week, the First Lady hosted two calls to ask school leadership and prospective school champions – including teachers, staff, parents, and community members – to join the new Let’s Move! Active Schools initiative.  An unprecedented collaboration of organizations across sectors, the new program will bring physical activity back to America’s schools through a simple, six-step process that helps all students get moving before, during, and after the school day.

We're excited to announce that our next White House Social will be a Let's Move! Social here, at the White House. On Monday, April 1st, 2013, the First Family will host the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll with the theme "Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!" We are inviting Let's Move! followers on Twitter and Facebook and their children, ages 5 - 13, to join the fun on the South Lawn and of course to share their experience with their followers! The day's activities -- which will include sports and cooking demonstrations -- will help educate families on smart ways to incorporate healthy eating and exercise choices into their daily routines, key pillars of First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative. The new school meal patterns have required school food authorities across the country to get creative. We are finding new ways to plan menus that not only meet the new meal guidelines but also please the taste buds of students.

Last week, First Lady Michelle Obama addressed health and wellness experts, thought leaders, and top executives at the Partnership for a Healthier America's "Building a Healthier Future" Summit. She highlighted some of the great work that has been done over the past few years in changing the national conversation around children's health, and cast her vision for a healthier America. Mrs. Obama, who is the honorary chair of the Partnership, invited the business community to join her in making it easier for families -- especially parents -- to make healthier choices.

You never know how a child will react to a new food. We took a chance and held a taste test of a healthy new recipe with about 25 fourth through eighth grade students at Hynes Charter School in New Orleans.

They said it couldn’t be done. Prepare meals from scratch. Done. Purchase locally grown foods.  Done. Add salad bars to every school. Done. Reduce sodium. Done. Develop a highly trained central production staff led by an Executive Chef, keep the budget in the black and maintain labor hours. Done, done and done. But it didn’t happen overnight!

Students from elementary and middle schools from more than 20 states submitted entries for this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll Poster Contest, and First Lady Michelle Obama has picked the winning designs. All of the submissions featured artwork relating to this year’s theme “Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!” Posters will be handed out as a prize to children who win the Easter Egg Roll or Egg Hunt, and programs will be distributed to all guests at the event.

Volcanic Meatloaf, Flew the Coop Tortilla Soup, Broccoli Monster Mash, and Pizza Green Beans are all on the menu in Idaho, thanks to a partnership with a local chef and dietitian creating a variety of chef-designed school lunch meals that are healthy and delicious.
