I’ve spent a lot of personal time exploring the incredible system of America’s State Parks.  Without exception, the moment I can remember from each visit is when I meet a fellow explorer who is experiencing a park for the first time.

As part of the Federal Executive Leadership Program, I was inspired to host a Let’s Move! Meetup in Salt Lake City. The leadership program, held in Richmond, VA, was aimed at developing skills to assume positions as team leaders, supervisors, and managers. I couldn’t think of a better way to test out what I had learned than through Let’s Move!, Michelle Obama’s initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation.

Yesterday was the first meeting of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition and it went great! We finally had an opportunity to come together and share our goals and visions for the Council with our Executive Director Shellie Pfohl.

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered remarks to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) today. For more than 30 years, CHCI has been working to develop the next generation of leaders for the future of the Hispanic community and the country as a whole through scholarships, fellowships, and career programs.

By Presidential proclamation and Congressional action, September 2010 has been declared the first Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Of course, for our Let’s Move! team, every month is about solving the problem of childhood obesity, but we will do some special things this month to encourage everyone to take action.
