Today, I had the honor of being awarded a Let's Move Outside Junior Ranger badge by four of our interns working with the National Park Service's Rivers & Trails Program. This summer, these young people are serving as Let’s Move Outside ambassadors for the National Park Service, engaging hundreds of elementary and middle school children in a range of healthy, outdoor activities at five different locations across the Northeastern United States.
Today the First Lady wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post on the importance of the Child Nutrition Bill. The groundbreaking legislation that will bring fundamental change to schools and improve food options for children.

We asked you to design infographics about the problem of childhood obesity and the ways the nation is working to address it -- drawing inspiration from the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity’s report to the President. What are you up to this summer? Are you movin’ and shakin’? It’s easy to let the summer heat keep you from playing outside – maybe one of the reasons I took up figure skating was to stay cool in the summer. OK, that might not be 100% true, but having dedicated such a large part of my life to my sport, I know how important physical activity is for your body, mind, and spirit.

Recently, a group of students took me on a tour of an urban farm in Roxbury, an inner-city neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. This farm produces a wide variety of delicious and healthy fruits and vegetables right in the heart of the city.
