First Lady Michelle Obama Speaks to Parade Magazine

This weekend, First Lady Michelle Obama appeared in Parade Magazine and applauded the success of Let’s Move! Whether in school cafeterias or at the Kids' State Dinner, First Lady Michelle Obama has consistently promoted nutrition and getting active throughout her time at the White House.

As a part of Let’s Move!, First Lady Michelle Obama discusses the importance of eating healthy and staying active, especially for children. That's why she worked to enact the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which has overhauled school lunches across the country, and and why she’s asking Parade readers to join her in increasing physical activity in schools across the country by signing up at letsmoveschools.org. Check out her video here.

Working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, First Lady Michelle Obama and Let's Move! have changed the makeup of school lunches without sacrificing its good taste. New school lunch menus include options that balance nutrients and promote healthier eating.

First Lady Michelle Obama knows that young people are essential to ensuring all our children have the healthy happy futures they deserve.

“When I see these kids, I think of my children and how it’s our job not to mess them up. They come with such optimism and such authenticity and sincerity. I want them to understand their power.”

But Let’s Move! does not end when children transition into adulthood, as the First Lady herself has realized:

“Each decade brings a new set of challenges but also a new set of possibilities. I have never felt more confident in myself, more clear on who I am as a woman. But I am constantly thinking about my own health and making sure that I’m eating right and getting exercise and watching the aches and pains. I want to be this really fly 80-, 90-year-old.”
