How You Got Moving This Summer, In Your Own Words
With summer vacation coming to a close, we asked you to tell us what you did to keep moving this summer by leaving a comment on the Let’s Move! Facebook page. And it sounds like you've been busy! From biking, to running, to rollerblading, to getting your hands dirty planting gardens – you’ve made the most of the longest days of the year.
Here’s how some of our Facebook fans got moving this summer, in their own words:
My husband & I dusted off our rollerblades (which we haven't worn in almost 8 years) and went rollerblading with our7 & 4 year olds. I forgot how much fun it is! Now we do it around our neighborhood and on some local bike paths. GREAT exercise!
We made it a habit to walk up to the neighborhood park and enjoy the beautiful outdoors! It was a blast!
I went on a long bike ride with my dad every Saturday. I swim for hours at my Gramma's house on weekdays.
We found a new trail to hike every weekend.
Planted our first garden in containers on the deck. We've enjoyed lettuces, snap peas, basil, rosemary and carrots so far. And I've kept moving by walking a lot. Life is good.
We purchased bikes and are enjoying the outdoors, the area trails and just feeling like kids again with being out on the roads!
I started a garden of tomatoes and bell peppers.
I made a commitment to make sure my baby gets outside every day for at least an hour. We usually manage more that that though. We put her in her carrier facing forward and go walking in the woods. I like knowing that the smells and sights and sounds of those hours will be part of her first memories of the world.
This summer we went on our first family bike ride where we all rode our own bikes. Even our 4yr old was on her training wheels & managed to keep up. We also did our usual hiking, evening walks to feed the ducks, sports and swimming.
Thanks to everyone that contributed! Your comments help inspire others with new ideas of ways to stay active. And if you didn’t leave a comment, it’s not too late. Feel free to let us know how you stayed active this summer.
